Personality:
Abilities:
Strengths: Honest, tenacious, compassionate, stern, selfless
Weaknesses: Simple, serious, excitable, violent, self-blaming
God/Shinki: Shinki
Why?: Souma is a very obedient character, and I'd like to play with his memory loss working into the setting when he's so determined to always work hard towards what he sees as a good goal. It will lead to him being a very loyal and hard working shinki, which I think will be interesting!
Cause Of Death: A stage accident during an Akatsuki performance. Souma pushes Keito out of the way as the stage collapses, and before anyone can get to him in time, he's crushed to death.
Vessel: A katana
Name Location: On the inside of his right wrist
Power: Singing vibrations. When his god sings while holding him, the blade vibrates finely and creates an aura that can cut through anything. This would only work while the god is still singing, or for about a minute after the song has ended, like a powerup.

Stories where Souma has a part
Ensemble Stars! is a mobile game where the main character is a girl in previously all-male school of idols. Through gameplay, you are able to unlock the main story (which has the main plot of events) as well as side stories through events and cards that help reveal the characters' personalities. Above, I've compiled links of everywhere Souma appears that is translated. This covers all of his history within the game, and I will also be sharing canon scenarios in the personality section to defend personality points. If there are any questions or I need to write out his history more detailed, please let me know!
Personality:
- Souma is such a serious and stern person that it may seem like he misunderstands his role. For the most part, he acts just like he expects a samurai would. Honor is very important to him, and he constantly holds himself and others to the standards of a warrior's lifestyle. We see this in his idol training, which is largely him waving around his sword to practice kendo, and also in how he treats others. Kaoru, for example, is a character who flirts with women all of the time. Souma, seeing this as inappropriate behavior, calls him a lecher and often verbally attacks him, sometimes even expressing interest in physically attacking him as well.
This serious part of him ends up combining with a seemingly unending energy that runs through his veins. Souma is very excitable, very passionate, and does not hold back in anything he does. This is part of his warrior's lifestyle, after all. He believes that a samurai should always give his all, and that's exactly what he does, from training to basic conversation. We see this energy come out most often with one of his quirks, which is to draw his sword and begin swinging it the moment he becomes excited. This is because he finds kendo to be a form of mental concentration that soothes his mind and also trains his body for the future. It's idol training just as much as anything else.
This enthusiasm and energy continues through into everything else he is as a person, as well. We see a clear and large level of compassion and care that he holds for everyone around him, so long as he holds some level of respect for them. It doesn't seem difficult to earn Souma's respect, as we see him quickly making friends with Mika, and he also grows quickly attached to the player character, going so far as to constantly defend her from Kaoru, who he feels is too much of a lecher to be around her. He cares deeply for Akatsuki, his unit, and when the student council president threatens to disband them, he's so angered and protective that he charges at him in the hall with his sword.
The scene where he runs at Eichi is one of the most revealing ones about Souma. Not only do we see his incredible care for his teammates, but we also see that he is quick to act on things, simple-minded, and his violent streak is reinforced. It's shown that Keito can't even stop Souma from running out to find Eichi, and in order for him to be stopped from attacking him, he has to be hypnotized. Wataru, another student, comments that the hypnosis was so easy because Souma had a simple mind, showing us that what he says really is all of the honest truth. There are also many times where Keito or others will give Souma instructions and he will listen without thought, to the point where it's occasionally a joke that he's so obedient. He's also so open that if he doesn't say something, he's likely not thinking it. On the other hand, if something's on his mind, it's sure to come out, a little rude or not. His violent streak is mentioned a few times, as the other students express that it's strange that he pulls his sword out so often, and while threatening Kaoru, he admits that he's curious and interested in cutting another human with his sword. On top of that, his number one reaction to a dangerous or worrying situation is to resort to violence. He's ready to defend anyone and everyone he cares about by running into battle and swinging his sword, even if that battle happens to be the stage where idols sing.
This means that he's a completely honest person. His main dislike is honesty, and we see that in his judgement of people as well as his judgement of himself. He speaks only the truth, whether or not people want to hear it, and expresses confusion if someone is shocked or bothered by the words that come from his mouth. At one point, he event says that he'll have to treat Keito gently, like a woman who's been locked up, and irritates Keito with those words. If Souma ever acts in a way that he's later scolded for, or finds wrong himself by some misunderstanding or other scenario, then he becomes so self-blaming that it becomes ridiculous. Most of the time, he promises seppuku on himself and sometimes tries to commit it before he's always stopped. In the rare times when he doesn't go that far, he still takes on every responsibility himself, be it carrying people princess style to the infirmary or just fretting over them with nagging words.
From all of this, we see a person who is very set in their ways and determined to grow with them rather than out of them. He sticks by his morals and never changes them, even when he does promise growth. Instead, he takes a very selfless approach and puts all of the responsibility on himself. The best example of all of this is just before graduation, where his two teammates are about to graduate and wonder where he's run off to, only to find that he's been training and working on his own this whole time so not to disappoint them. He shoulders the work himself, works to make people proud and not disappointed, and most importantly lives by his own standards and warrior path.
To sum it up, Souma is a very pure soul that's very straightforward with what he wants, thinks and feels. He's open with his thoughts, but he also holds blame and responsibility on himself rather than anyone else, and will work to protect anyone he cares for. Even if he's terribly simple-minded and a little too quick to jump into violent situations either from misunderstandings or his own beliefs, he can be reasoned with and understands logic. He's obedient, but not to the point of giving up his own morals, and he never backs down from a challenge.
Abilities:
- Idol
As an idol, Souma is skilled in singing and dancing. The idol groups in Ensemble Stars! also get up to a lot of strange things, such as another character creating a giant mecha that had to be dealt with by Akatsuki (Souma's idol unit) during a show. They were able to maneuver around and over the mecha and still continue with the performance without messing up. So, along with singing and dancing skills, there's also an element of dramatic anime adapting to the situation.
Kendo/Fitness
Souma is very familiar with Kendo, thanks to his family running a kendo hall, and is also commented on to be stronger than the average student. Despite his appearance, he's quite strong and decently fast as well. Though he's not as fast as his friend Adonis, he's shown to work on this daily, and his hardworking nature helps him improve. Basically, he's tougher than he seems!
